In the wake of natural disasters like Hurricane Harvey, and even just normal operations, your store can be looted or burglarized. When that happens, the police will need all the evidence you can provide in order to catch whoever committed the crime and, perhaps, get back some of your property. A security camera system, properly installed and working, can be one of the best investments you can make.
What is a security camera system?
In its most basic form, this is a connected system of cameras that records video. The security cameras are mounted in places inside and/or outside your store and continuously record video (and sometimes audio). The video recording can be streamed live to monitors as well as being saved to a hard drive where it can be viewed later.
What Police Need to Know
If your store is burglarized, looted, or vandalized, video footage from security cameras may save your business thousands of dollars and help bring a criminal to justice. Police will want to know the following for any incidents:
- The time and date it happened
- How many people were involved
- What the people looked like, including clothing
- What was taken or damaged
The more you can provide, the better off you’ll be.
Installing Your System the Right Way
You’ll want your security cameras placed both indoors and outdoors, as well as in areas that are hard to see, such as the back of the store. Ideally, you’ll want two cameras in each location pointing in different directions to catch different angles, such as one watching people enter your store and one watching them go out. You may even want cameras that take in larger views, such as the back of your store or an entire wall area. And this is why you’ll want a </a href=”/cctv-surveillance-systems/”>professional installation.
Installing a system correctly is not easy. For the best quality video recording, you’ll want cameras that are wired directly to the hard drive (wireless can be spotty and is lower quality because the signal must be sent over the air). And if you want the cameras wired right in a way that doesn’t make your store look like it was done by a couple junior high kids over the weekend, you’ll need an experienced installer with the right tools and the right eye for detail. And keep in mind that even if you choose a wireless camera, that camera requires power to keep running, so you will still need some type of wire running from it.
Your store security can be greatly improved by the use of security camera system. The right equipment is the most important part, but the right equipment needs to be set up the right way. TC Tech Systems can help!
